and safety, New England Sinai Hospital and Rehabilitation Center has
earned the Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval TM.
The Joint Commission's most recent on-site survey of New England Sinai occurred in February 2004. The award of accreditation is for the three year period.
The National Standards set by the Joint Commission are intended to stimulate continuous, systematic and organization-wide improvement in an organization's performance and the outcomes of care. The awarding of accreditation to New England Sinai exhibits the hospital's focus on the most challenging goal - to continuously raise quality and safety to higher levels.
Founded in 1951, the Joint Commission seeks to continuously improve the safety and quality of care provided to the public through the provision of health care accreditation and related services that support performance improvement in healthcare organizations. The Joint Commission evaluates and accredits nearly 17,000 health care organizations and programs in the United States, including approximately 9,000 hospitals and home care organizations, and 8,000 other healthcare organizations that provide long-term care, assisted living, behavioral health care, laboratory and ambulatory care services. The Joint Commission also accredits health plans, integrated delivery networks and other managed care entities.
An independent, not-for-profit organization, the Joint Commission is the nation's oldest and largest standards-setting and accrediting body in health care.
CARF - Rehabilitation Accreditation Commission
For the eleventh consecutive survey, New England Sinai Hospital has been awarded a Three-Year Accreditation for its Inpatient Rehabilitation Programs and Outpatient Medical Rehabilitation Programs. by CARF International, the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities. The accreditation is effective through 2011and based on the results of a scheduled voluntary survey in the fall of 2008.. Surveyors visited New England Sinai Hospital in Stoughton, the Sinai Inpatient Satellites at Medical Center and Caritas Carney Hospital and Sinai's rehabilitation site at the Striar Jewish Community Center (Stoughton).
Sinai is the only rehabilitation provider in Massachusetts with a CARF-accredited Outpatient Medical Rehabilitation Program. The scope of the most recent accreditation has been expanded to include the Outpatient Amputation Specialty Program (Adults), making SInai one of the few organizations in the country to achieve accreditation for both Inpatient and Outpatient Amputation Specialty Programs (Adult). The scope of the Inpatient Rehabilitation Program also includes individual accreditation in the Stroke Specialty Program (Adults). These inpatient specialties make Sinai unique among rehabilitation services providers in Massachusetts.
The three-year accreditation is the highest level that is awarded by CARF and recognizes Sinai's conformance to rigorous standards of quality, accountability, value and service.
CARF is a private, not-for-profit, Tucson-based accreditation body established in 1966. CARF is committed to promoting the quality, value and optimal outcomes of services through a consultative accreditation process that centers on enhancing the lives of persons served.
American Diabetes Association (ADA) Education Recognition Certificate
The prestigious American Diabetes Association Education Recognition Certificate for a quality diabetes self-management education program was awarded to the Richard A. Field Diabetes Center at New England Sinai Hospital education program in February 2005. This recognition is effective through 2008. Sinai has received this ADA recognition continuously since 1993. ADA believes that this program offers high-quality diabetes self-management education that is an essential component of effective diabetes treatment.
The Association's Education Recognition Certificates assures that educational programs meet the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education Programs. These Standards were developed and tested under the auspices of the National Diabetes Advisory Board in 1983 and were revised by the diabetes community in 1994 and 2000.
Programs applying for Recognition voluntarily submit to a rigorous review process by experts in the field of diabetes who evaluate each program on its ability to provide patients with a comprehensive individualized education program. Programs that achieve Recognition status have a staff of knowledgeable health professionals who can provide participants with comprehensive information about diabetes management.
