1. How long will I have to stay at Sinai?
It varies for each individual patient, however the average length of stay at Sinai is 32 days.
2. Is Sinai a rehabilitation hospital?
Sinai is a Long Term Acute Care Hospital (LTACH) offering both a medical model and rehabilitation services for pulmonary, post-surgical, medically complex, cardiac and rehabilitation patients. Physicians are on duty in the hospital around the clock and are immediately available in the event of a medical emergency. Sinai's rehabilitation programs are CARF certified (Rehabilitation Accreditation Commission formerly known as the Commission of Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) demonstrating Sinai's commitment to excellence.
3. How many hours per day will I work with therapy?
At Sinai each patient is treated according to an individually designed plan of care with his or her specific needs in mind. Therapy may include Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech/Language Therapy and Respiratory Therapy. Some therapy will take place at the bedside while other therapy will be in the gym depending on the area of focus.
4. How many patients in each room?
Most rooms are semi-private with the exception of one 4-bed room. At Sinai we co-habitate patients on precautions when appropriate.
5. Will I have a TV and telephone?
Bedside TV and telephone service is available at our satellite location and on the Stoughton campus, with the exception of TVs on units 1C North and 2C South where loaners are available or you may bring your own (up to 19"). There is no charge for TV, cable service or phone installation. Local calls are free; long distance calls need be made collect, charged to a credit card or made with a phone card. Phone cards can be purchased in the gift shop.
6. What are the visiting hours?
Visiting hours at our Stoughton campus and satellite are 12 noon to 8:30 p.m. daily. An adjustment to the visiting hours can be arranged at the nurse manager's discretion. During warm weather our Stoughton campus patio area is furnished with umbrella tables and chairs for patients and families to use, with physician approval.
7. Will my doctor follow me there?
If your doctor is on the staff at Sinai he or she may elect to follow you. The majority of our patients are assigned an attending physician for their stay. Upon discharge a full report is sent to the primary care provider and/or the referring physician to ensure medical records are complete.
8. Will my insurance cover all my services?
While there may be charges not covered by your insurance, it is best to check your individual policy for specific coverage benefits. Sinai Admissions Department will secure insurance pre-certification and check hospital benefits prior to your admission. Upon admission all patients are given a detailed insurance write-up explaining how your Sinai stay will be paid.
9. Can I leave the hospital?
Occasionally patients leave the hospital for scheduled off-site medical appointments. When this occurs transportation is arranged. Most patients stay at Sinai until discharged by the physician and healthcare team.
10. Will my family be able to stay with me?
Reasonable accommodations are made for patient's family members at the nurse manager's discretion ensuring the safety, care and comfort of all patients on the unit.
11. Will I be able to use the pool?
The pool, located at the Striar Jewish Community Center is for outpatient therapy and rehabilitation.
12. How is the food? Can my family bring in food?
At Sinai we take pride in the presentation of nourishing and appetizing meals prepared by our chef. Special needs can be arranged for people following kosher or other dietary laws. Your visitors are asked to check with the nurse or dietitian before bringing any food to you.
13. What is the nursing staff to patient ratio?
Depending on the unit you are on the ratio varies, for example the pulmonary weaning unit is more nursing focused where the rehab unit services are more therapy focused and less nursing intensive.
