Physical Therapy
Physical Therapy is a cornerstone of Sinai's inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services. Using a wide range of sophisticated equipment, our physical therapists work with patients to increase muscle strength, maximize normal movement, and decrease pain. For some patients, physical therapy is part of their inpatient care plan; others require physical therapy on an outpatient basis only. For many patients the desired outcomes are accomplished in a few weeks; for some patients the rehabilitative process is longer and more arduous. Sinai therapists know when to motivate and inspire, and when and how to push for added gains. Their skills, understanding and compassion make Sinai a leading rehabilitation hospital.
Sinai Outpatient PT and OT Departments earns 11th Consecutive FOTO™ Certificate of Excellence
New England Sinai Hospital was recognized for the 11th consecutive quarter for excellence in Outpatient Physical and Occupational Therapy by Focus on Therapeutic Outcomes, Inc. (FOTO). FOTO certificates of excellence are presented to only a select group of providers across the country to recognize the excellence achieved in effectiveness of treatment during the past twelve months. As a nationwide outcomes database and reporting service for healthcare providers, FOTO outcomes data are beneficial because they provide a benchmark measure for overall quality and value of the services offered by an organization.

THE SIMULATED LIVING CENTER AT SINAI
New England Sinai Hospital patients preparing to go home after a long hospital stay often feel a mixture of excitement and apprehension about returning to their old lifestyles, and wonder whether they will be able to maneuver well at home, at work and in their communities.
In their rehabilitation programs with Sinai physical and occupational therapists, patients work to regain maximum function and practice the skills they will need to perform daily life tasks safely once they return home. Sinai's Simulated Living Center takes the rehabilitation process one step further by providing true-to-life scenarios designed to help patients develop, practice and master these essential skills: learning to navigate the aisles of a busy supermarket; reach or bend safely to retrieve items on store shelves; and lift heavy bags of groceries; safely maintaining balance while standing in a shower and getting into or out of a bathtub not equipped with grab bars; getting in and out of bed without falling, bending to use an oven while preparing meals or walking safely on carpeted and hardwood floors unassisted.
The Simulated Living Center at Sinai is equipped with a supermarket, restaurant booth and take-out counter, kitchen, bedroom, training bathroom, living room, office and even a car and garage area. In these controlled and supervised settings, fully staffed by physical and occupational therapists and other clinical professionals, patients gain the skills and confidence they need. The new simulated settings also help Sinai therapists build on their expertise by facilitating enhanced assessments of patients’ skills as they perform therapy tasks.
