Appreciation and Recognition

Awards

Every day is an opportunity at New England Sinai, an opportunity to excel at your work and to go the extra mile for a patient - and to recognize colleagues who do the same.  At New England Sinai, here's how we show our appreciation with awards and recognition for a job well done.

Milton W. Woolfson Compassionate Caregiver Award

At Sinai, we define quality care as the masterful blending of outstanding expertise, a focus on safety and compassionate delivery. This underlying philosophy of caregiving is recognized in Sinai caregivers who display an exceptional ability to listen and to comfort and treat patients with sensitivity and respect in the most difficult times. In 2006, the Sinai Milton W. Woolfson Compassionate Caregiver of the Year Award was established to recognize these true role models for the high level of care they provide and the difference they make in the lives they have touched. Each year, Sinai medical, clinical and therapy staff are nominated for the Compassionate Caregiver of the Year Award by patients, family members, supervisors and colleagues. All nominees are recognized at an employee luncheon, during which the winner of this prestigious honor is announced. The award is formally presented at the hospital's annual June board meeting.

Dorothea Tyrrell Silk Nursing Leadership Award

A member of our nursing staff is honored each year for his or her leadership abilities at the Hospital and in the community. The award was established in 2007 by former Director of Staff Development, Dorothea Tyrrell Silk, who continues to be committed to lifelong learning and is a quintessential cheerleader for the profession of nursing.

Meritgrams

Patients and their family members often recognize Sinai staff members for the outstanding care and compassion they provide by sending a Meritgram to Judy Waterston, President & CEO. These commentaries, along with a personal note from the President, are shared with the recipient, to commend their dedication and exceptional care.

Employee Service Awards

Sinai is known for its long-serving employees who offer decades of loyal, dedicated, and exceptional service.  More than a job, they demonstrate that theirs is a career calling, helping to enrich our atmosphere of respect for employees at all levels and the feeling that working at Sinai means being part of a family of connected caregivers.  In recognition of all they do, Sinai recognizes these employees for their milestones- five, ten, fifteen, twenty-five, thirty, and thirty-five years - with a special dinner where they receive recognition pins.

Employee of the Month Award

You know when you are working alongside someone who is going the extra mile, who always gives a high level of service, and who demonstrates integrity and leadership.  We call this the "Sinai Cares" philosophy, and individuals who demonstrate it are recognized by the Sinai Employee of the Month award.  Nominations are submitted by hospital staff, patients, and family members, and a committee of administrators and employees makes the final selection from that list.  The award is presented at a monthly reception with the President and CEO for all employees.

Susan G. Kropoff Employee of the Year Award

The Sinai Susan G. Kropoff Employee of the Year is a very special award named in memory of a former patient who was at Sinai for most of her adult life and who demonstrated immense courage and fortitude.  Her example inspired many, and the award named in her honor is a reflection of that spirit.  The award recipient is selected from the year's 12 Employee of the Month award winners and goes to the employee who embodies the very qualities that make Sinai a shining example of excellence.  All employees are invited to attend the annual Employee of the Year announcement luncheon, during which all the 12 employees of the month are recognized and the winner is named.

Caught in the Act

A key to maintaining Sinai's positive atmosphere is recognizing when our people do something well.  Our Caught in the Act program does just that - recognizing staff members who give exceptional service, comfort a patient, or improve our procedures.  Department leaders can "catch" any staff member with a Caught in the Act thank you card, describing the specific reason for the award and showing how much we appreciate all the little things they do to make Sinai stand head and shoulders above the rest.
