The Diabetes Center at New England Sinai Hospital is designed to promote the health and well being of patients with Diabetes. Through a team approach, the Center serves as a resource to the patient, the patient's family and the primary care physician. The Diabetes Center has been recognized by the American Diabetes Association for Quality Patient Education and Provider Recognition since 1993.

 

The Diabetes Center Serves:

  • Patients diagnosed with Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes
  • Newly diagnosed adults with diabetes
  • Individuals diagnosed with diabetes whose condition has changed, or who would like a second opinion on treatment
  • Pregnant women with diabetes, or those who develop diabetes during pregnancy (gestational)
  • Patients requiring support, education or motivation to manage their diabetes
  • Families of those diagnosed with diabetes

Program Highlights

The Diabetes Center team makes a careful evaluation of your overall health and history, and tailors an individualized program of medical management, education, nutrition, and exercise counseling. An ongoing program of treatment and support helps you to maintain an appropriate level of glucose control and minimize complications.

Medical Management

Evaluation of metabolic control, presence of complications, and recommendations for therapy for those with Type 1, Type 2, and gestational diabetes. The center physicians are board certified endocrinologists.

Diabetes Self Management Training

Sinai's Certified Diabetes Educators offers individual instruction, classes, lectures and support groups to help you achieve and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Our Registered Nurses and Registered Dietitians are all Certified Diabetes Educators.

Nutritional Counseling

Individual instruction from our Registered Dietitians based on your lifestyle, cultural background and specific nutritional needs.

Pregnancy Care

Treatment, education and nutritional counseling for gestational diabetes as well as for pregnant women with pre-existing diabetes.

Specialized Staff

The Diabetes Center's staff include:

  • Endocrinologists specializing in diabetes and awarded ADA Provider Recognition
  • Registered Nurse certified in diabetes education
  • Registered Dietitian certified in diabetes education
  • Exercise Physcologist

Consultative Services

Foot Care

Progressive diabetic foot care in conjunction with Deaconess Surgical Associates.

Vision Care Services

Vitreoretinal eye care services provided by a board-certified ophthalmologist. Low vision care provided by an optometrist.

To learn more about the Diabetes Program at Sinai or to schedule an initial visit, call (781) 297-1385. You may make an appointment at the Diabetes Center with or without a physician referral. (A referral from your primary care physician is needed for HMO subscribers.)
