Specialty Centers

Hyperbaric Center

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO) is a specialized medical treatment in which the patient breathes 100% oxygen inside a pressurized chamber.

HBO therapy quickly delivers high concentrations of 100% oxygen to the bloodstream. This assists in the wound healing process and is highly effective in fighting certain types of infections. It also helps to stimulate the growth of new blood vessels, which can improve circulation and wound healing.

HBO therapy can treat a wide range of conditions including:

  • Diabetic Foot Ulcers
  • Osteoradionecrosis
  • Compromised Flaps/Grafts
  • Chronic, Refractory Osteomyelitis
  • Soft Tissue Radionecrosis
  • Peripheral Artery Disease

HBO Therapy Treatment

HBO therapy is administered through a specially designed, state-of-the-art hyperbaric chamber that enables our patients to inhale 100% oxygen at a greater-than-atmospheric pressure. The hyperbaric chamber is completely transparent so that Sinai patients can see the technologist at all times. It is also equipped with two-way audio to allow conversations between the patient and technician. Patients may choose to watch TV or listen to music during treatment. A typical HBO therapy treatment session lasts two hours, and a course of therapy is usually 20-30 treatments. Patients are seen 5 times a week - Monday through Friday. Typically, HBO therapy is used in conjunction with other specialized medical protocols available at the Sinai Wound Center.
