PRESS RELEASE

NEW ENGLAND SINAI HOSPITAL WILL PRESENT SPECIAL EVENTS
IN RECOGNITION OF HOLOCAUST DAYS OF REMEMBRANCE

STOUGHTON, MA This year, the Holocaust Days of Remembrances are observed April 27 - May 4, 2008 with Holocaust Remembrance Day (Yom Hashoah) on May 2, 2008. In recognition of this and in observance of Sinai’s beginnings as the Jewish Tuberculosis Hospital in 1927, Sinai’s Auxiliary and Volunteer Services Department will present two special events. The Sinai Men’s Associates Speaker Series is hosting a breakfast program at Sinai, featuring Canton resident and Holocaust survivor Israel Geller, 83, on Sunday May 4, 2008 at 10:00 am. Geller spent most of his teen years as a slave laborer at Auschwitz and Dachau, and in the Jewish ghettos of Lodz, Benchen and Warsaw. On May 20th the Sinai Women’s Forum will present a special screening of the Holocaust film, “Secret Courage: The Walter Suskind Story” on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at 7:00 pm at the hospital. Produced by Karen & Tim Morse of Morse photography, the acclaimed film tells the story of Suskind, a German Jew living in Amsterdam forced by the Nazis to serve as the Jewish head of deportation at the Jewish Theater in Amsterdam, used as the main deportation site in Holland. Using his fluent German, his skills as an actor and businessman, and unfathomable courage and tenacity, he and an intrepid group of resistance workers orchestrated the escape of close to 1000 Dutch children who were marked for transport to the death camps. The film has screened at nine film festivals and has had exposure in seven countries including Israel.  Almost 4,000 DVD copies have been distributed and there have been more than 50 screenings at schools and community events. For more information, program costs and to register please call (781) 297-1333.

The Sinai Men's Associates was founded by a group of men interested in providing volunteer and financial support to the hospital and its patients. Members serve as ambassadors to the community, and are involved in a variety of fund raising activities and the sponsorship of patient/family programs.

The Sinai Women’s Forum meet to spread the good word about New England Sinai Hospital, pursue networking opportunities and enjoy the company of like-minded women. New England Sinai Hospital was founded by a group of energetic and committed women in 1927 as a TB sanatorium. The Women’s Forum celebrates the tradition of women leading the way then and going forward.
