PRESS RELEASE

Enroll this June in a New Program Exclusively for Type 1 Diabetics on Multiple Insulin Injections or Insulin Pump at New England Sinai Hospital

STOUGHTON, MA —Advance Your Control of Diabetes, a new, multi-session program launched in January for those with Type 1 diabetes on multiple injections or using the insulin pump, will be offered again at New England Sinai Hospital’s Diabetes Center this June to meet the needs of those living long term with diabetes who would like to take their self-management skills to the next level. “Most of the diabetes education programs offered throughout our region focus on Type 2 diabetes, but this program is tailored expressly for those who take insulin,” says Sandra Kilgallen, RN, Director of the Diabetes Center at Sinai, recognized by the American Diabetes Association for its leadership in developing innovative education and support programs since 1993.

Individuals with Type 1 diabetes tend to be extremely knowledgeable about the disease and develop strong, long-term management skills but, according to Kilgallen, “What they may not know about insulin may surprise them. The Advance Your Control of Diabetes program will give them an array of helpful new strategies and information.” The program begins on Monday, June 1, 2009 with a full day session from 9am to 3pm and then continues for two more Monday evening sessions on June 15 and June 22 from 6-8pm. Classes are held at Sinai at 150 York Street in Stoughton, and are taught by a highly qualified team of Sinai professionals with extensive experience: Certified Diabetes Educators; a registered nurse; a registered dietician; and an exercise physiologist. Insurance with a physician’s referral covers the cost of participation. All participants enjoy small class sizes (from 5 to 10 particpants) and the caring staff Sinai is known for. For more information and to register, please contact (781) 297-1385. Those who have Type 2 diabetes and think they may be a candidate for this program, please call (781) 297-1389.
