PRESS RELEASE
GERALD EATON NAMED NEW ENGLAND SINAI HOSPITAL SUSAN G. KROPOFF EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR
STOUGHTON, MA — Lester P. Schindel, President and CEO of New England Sinai Hospital, recently announced Gerald “Jerry” Eaton as the Susan G. Kropoff 2006 Employee of the Year. “I can’t think of a better person to achieve this kind of honor,” said Schindel. “Jerry’s service has been exemplary and he consistently goes the extra mile for Sinai. As he marks 30 years of loyal service to Sinai in 2007, Jerry continues to dedicate himself to making Sinai a wonderful place for patients, their families and the entire Sinai staff.” The Susan G. Kropoff Award is so named to honor the example of a former patient who remained at Sinai for most of her adult life. A person of immense courage and patience, Kropoff, who was a quadriplegic, battled complex medical conditions for much of her childhood and adult life, but remained vibrant and engaged in everything and everyone around her. She touched the lives of everyone who came to know her at Sinai and her example inspired many. One of Eaton’s first duties at Sinai in 1977 was to help take Kropoff out of her iron lung, therefore his selection as the first employee to receive the Susan G. Kropoff Employee of the Year Award was all the more meaningful and poignant.
A longtime resident of Stoughton, MA, Eaton is a maintenance technician at Sinai and has built a reputation as the person to see if anything needs doing, repairing or moving. He was commended for his modest, but efficient and responsive work style in July 2006 when he was named Sinai’s Employee of the Month.
In addition to handling maintenance projects and equipment repairs Eaton worked as a welder at the Quincy Shipyard prior to coming to Sinai. When asked why he has remained on the job at Sinai for three decades, Eaton said, “What I enjoy most about Sinai is something I think is very hard to find in the workplace: wonderful people, the chance to make patients’ stays more comfortable on a daily basis, and the fact that I can be myself and feel appreciated for who I am.”
