PRESS RELEASE

KNIGHTS OF PYTHIAS-GRAND LODGE MAKE GIFT TO NEW ENGLAND SINAI HOSPITAL

STOUGHTON, MA Knights of Pythias Grand Vice Chancellor, Howard R. Levy of Brockton, presented a check for $4,495 to New England Sinai Hospital Executive Vice President, Ronald M. Lombardi, for the purchase of a treadmill. “This particular treadmill is unique in its ability to not only accommodate higher-level patients, but also to accommodate those who need to move at slower speeds.  With the addition of this piece of equipment, the Sinai Inpatient and Outpatient Pulmonary Rehabilitation and Maintenance Programs as well as the Diabetes Exercise Program will be able to accommodate more patients,” said Lombardi.  Thousands of Sinai patients have been treated over the years with equipment purchased through the generosity of the Knights of Pythias.

The Knights of Pythias is a non-sectarian, fraternal organization, which performs charitable work in various communities. It was founded in 1864 on the principals of Friendship, Charity and Benevolence in an attempt to bring brothers from both sides of the Civil War closer together. It is the first fraternal organization to be granted a charter under a special act of the United States Congress. This year, along with lodges throughout North America, the Order is celebrating its 143rd anniversary and its tradition of extending the hand of friendship to many who have been in need. The Massachusetts Grand Lodge was instituted in 1869.

New England Sinai Hospital is a 212-bed, non-sectarian, not-for-profit, long-term acute-care hospital with its main campus in Stoughton, MA and inpatient satellite units at Tufts-New England Medical Center in Boston and Caritas Carney Hospital in Dorchester. Recognized as a regional leader in pulmonary and medically complex care, Sinai also offers a wide range of outpatient programs and services.  Sinai is a teaching affiliate of Tufts University School of Medicine.
