PRESS RELEASE
STEP UP AND WALK TO HELP SENIORS
PARTICIPATE IN THE SINAI WALKATHON
STOUGHTON, MA — Walking is healthful, walking is fun, and when you walk with Sinai on Sunday, September 13, 2009, you’ll be stepping up your support for our community and our seniors! As a walker or sponsor of the Stepping Up with Sinai Walkathon, you’ll be raising funds for scholarships to Sinai’s Adult Day Health Program, which has been providing safe and supervised care since 1983. Without scholarships, many seniors and frail adults would not be able to attend the program. This year, more than ever, they need your help ― for every $55 raised, one day of scholarship can be awarded!
The Stepping Up Walkathon, sponsored by the New England Sinai Hospital Foundation and the Rotary Community Corps of Adult Day Health Programs, begins and ends at the Striar YMCA at 445 Central Street in Stoughton at 9:30 am, with a 3.2 mile (or 5K) loop around the neighborhood. Registration begins at 8:30 am. For more information and to register, contact Deb Ribak at (781) 297-1375 or dribak@nesinai.org.
Residents and businesses from Stoughton and surrounding communities ― Sharon, Canton, Easton, Foxboro, Braintree, Holbrook, Avon, Brockton, Randolph, Bridgewater, Walpole and others ― are encouraged to participate either by walking individually, in teams, becoming a sponsor or recommending sponsors who may be interested in participating.
Since 2001, the Stepping Up Walkathon has raised more than $100,000 toward scholarships. Business and Corporate Sponsorships are vitally important to the success of this event! Sponsorship opportunity levels are: Gold - $5000, Silver - $2500, Bronze - $1000, $500 and $250. This year, the Sinai Men’s Associates is once again among the Gold Sponsors. Businesses and Corporations are invited to join other 2009 community-minded sponsors, including: Conroy Development, Walmart Foundation, Reader & Downes Flooring, Crescent Credit Union, Sam Hurvitz, Independence Pipe & Supply Company, and COSTCO. Contact Sinai Foundation Executive Director, Bettyann McKenzie at 781-297-1328 or bmckenzie@nesinai.org for more information.
The Sinai Adult Day Health Care Program gives families peace of mind, knowing that their loved ones are enjoying companionship and care, which allows them to handle their daily commitments without worry or interruption. Most importantly, participation in an adult day program allows seniors and frail adults to remain in the community so that their families may continue caring for them at home. In the U.S. today, 80% of care for elderly, frail and disabled adults is provided by family members. Adult day programs help family caregivers maintain their balance by providing a safe, dignified place for their loved ones to spend the day, and by allowing caregivers to continue to work outside the home, attend to other household duties, or take a much needed break.
Founded in October of 2001, the New England Sinai Hospital Foundation was established to serve as the philanthropic arm of New England Sinai Hospital and Rehabilitation Center. The Foundation is committed to raising funds to support New England Sinai Hospital in meeting the health-care needs of its communities, through the development of financial support from individuals, businesses, organizations and foundations.
New England Sinai Hospital is a 212-bed, non-sectarian, not-for-profit, long-term acute-care hospital with its main campus in Stoughton, MA and an inpatient satellite unit in Boston. It is a teaching affiliate of Tufts University School of Medicine. Sinai is recognized as a regional leader in the care of pulmonary, medically complex and acute rehabilitation care. Additionally, Sinai offers a wide range of specialized outpatient programs and services.
