PRESS RELEASE

KIDS LOSE WEIGHT, GAIN SELF ESTEEM WITH
NEW ENGLAND SINAI'S WEIGH LESS YOUTH PROGRAM

STOUGHTON, MAMore than 9 million children over the age of 6 are overweight and at higher risk for developing health problems later in life such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure. Studies show that as a result of diseases that are related to being overweight, children today may not live as long as their parents. Helping kids lose weight isn’t easy, but enrolling them in a weight loss program can help by providing structure and encouragement and new ways to think about diet and exercise. Kids who participated in Sinai’s Weigh Less Youth Program for kids ages 10 to 16 felt better about themselves and took steps to avoid serious health problems later in life. The Weigh Less Youth Program meets at Sinai and runs for six consecutive Monday evenings from 6:00 to 7:00 pm on October 5, October 12, October 19 and October 26, 2009. Tuition is $120 ― only $20 a session for six weeks! For more information and to register, please call 781-297-1387.

Weigh Less Program Instructor and registered dietitian Patricia LoPresti, says “At Sinai, we give preteens and teenagers information to help them gain control of their eating habits, make the right choices when it comes to food, and understand the benefits of exercise and how exercise can actually be a fun activity,” she says.  Topics covered include: nutrition basics, facts and fallacies, balanced meals, fiber, water, label reading, portion control, healthy snacks, sample menus, activity benefits, calories, healthy habits, changing behaviors, positive eating and lifestyle changes.
