Support Sinai's Volunteer Program
Each year over 200 men and women donate more than 34,000 hours of time as volunteers at Sinai. Fulfilling a variety of assignments, these conscientious individuals contribute to the daily operations of the hospital adding an important and caring dimension to the Sinai work force. The sense of commitment and enthusiasm with which they approach their volunteer responsibilities produces a synergy ensuring that everyone involved in the volunteer program is a winner - the patients, patient families, hospital staff and the volunteers themselves who gain a feeling of accomplishment and fulfillment.
Some volunteers work side-by-side with Sinai professionals as clerical assistants, cafeteria personnel, or mail room clerks; some enjoy the highly visible front desk and gift shop sales positions while others prefer helping behind the scene checking inventory and using their office skills.
For volunteers, Sinai's long-term patient environment provides unique opportunities to interact directly with patients as friendly visitors and by helping in the daily care of patients with patient/family recreation programs. Within this setting, long lasting, friendships are often established, enriching the lives of both patients and volunteers.
Who Are the Sinai Volunteers?
Volunteers at Sinai range in age from 13-year-old high school students to retired octogenarians. Many volunteers are retirees who bring their life experiences to their volunteer assignments. They find reward in learning new skills, meeting new people, and sharing their individual expertise in a new and satisfying way.
In addition to their daily careers, many working men and women also handle volunteer responsibilities at Sinai. Some find these positions help them learn new skills, try out a new career path, or just afford them a way to share their skills in a different and meaningful way.
High school and college students bring a youthful vitality to their volunteer positions. For these young people, who are often seeking information to help in making wise personal career decisions, their Sinai experiences enable them to learn new skills and explore different healthcare and related professions, as well as gain a sense of satisfaction by helping others.

The Volunteer Process
The first step in becoming a Sinai volunteer is to meet with the director of volunteer and auxiliary services for a personal interview to share your interest and learn more about the program. The director will discuss the current volunteer positions available. After you find a position that corresponds with your interests, experience, and fits your time schedule, a volunteer placement orientation will help you learn about your responsibilities before starting your "new job."
